Orthopedic Solutions for Veterinary Practices
VetOvation has also partnered with German implant manufacturer, Rita Leibinger Medical. They are a family-run organization that designs and manufactures high quality implants and instruments. Recognizing the evolving needs of veterinary orthopedic surgery, VetOvation focuses on affordable, high-quality solutions with a customer-first mentality for its entire orthopedic line.
Building a reliable orthopedic surgical program means having the right equipment ready for every stage of a case, from initial bone work through to a stable, healing repair. Practices vary widely in caseload and budget, which is why VetOvation structures its orthopedic offering around flexibility: new and certified pre-owned equipment sit side by side, so a growing practice isn’t forced to choose between quality and cost.
Whether a hospital is expanding into orthopedic surgery for the first time or looking to modernize equipment already in regular use, VetOvation’s team works directly with practices to match the right combination of tools to their actual case mix, not a one-size-fits-all package.

Veterinary Orthopedic Surgical Tools and Equipment
Veterinary orthopedic surgery requires three categories of equipment working together: power equipment for cutting and drilling bone, implants for stabilizing it during healing, and hand instruments for the surrounding steps of every procedure.
VetOvation supplies orthopedic power equipment through ConMed, one of the most established names in surgical power instruments, available as new or certified pre-owned systems to fit any budget.
Orthopedic implants come through Rita Leibinger Medical, a German family-run manufacturer whose plates, screws, and fixation systems are designed and built specifically for veterinary sizing and procedures. Instrument kits for both general orthopedic and specialty procedures round out the lineup, letting practices equip a specific procedure type without assembling tools piece by piece.
Orthopedic Power Equipment: Drills and Saws
Orthopedic power equipment covers the drills, saws, reamers, and wire/pin drivers used for bone cutting, drilling, and implant placement during procedures like TPLO surgery, fracture repair, and arthrodesis. VetOvation supplies this equipment in partnership with ConMed, offered as new or refurbished systems.
Power equipment comes in three types, and the right one depends on procedure volume and OR setup rather than one being universally better:
- Battery-powered instruments, such as the Hall MicroFree Handpieces and the Hall 50 Dual-Trigger Modular Handpiece, offer cordless mobility in the OR.
- Pneumatic systems like the Surgairtome Refurbished Kit run on compressed nitrogen and suit practices already set up with a nitrogen tank or line.
- Electric systems draw from an external power source or generator. Systems such as the MicroPower+ system powered by the D4000 generator can fit lower-volume or budget-conscious setups. However, for higher volume practices that also do arthroscopy, the D4000 will power the Edge arthroscopic shaver as well to provide an opportunity for a dual purpose piece of equipment.
Orthopedic Implants: Plates, Screws, and Fixation Systems
Orthopedic implants stabilize bone during healing after a fracture or osteotomy. VetOvation supplies these through Rita Leibinger Medical, a German, family-run implant and instrument manufacturer. The two main implant categories are:
- Joint plating systems, such as the Titanium LeiLOX TPLO Plating System, used to treat cranial cruciate ligament injuries by stabilizing the tibia after a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy.
- Fracture plating systems, including locking plate systems where screws lock directly into the plate for a fixed-angle construct. There are also cannulated compression screw sets like the LeiCOM line.
Implants are available in titanium or stainless steel. Titanium offers reduced weight and corrosion resistance; stainless steel remains a strong, cost-effective option for many cases. Material and plate selection depend on patient size, fracture type, bone quality, and anatomical location.
Orthopedic Instruments: The Supporting Toolkit
Orthopedic instruments round out the line with the hand tools used alongside power equipment and implants during a procedure. VetOvation offers pre-assembled kits, including an Orthopedic Instrument Kit, a Soft Tissue Instrument Kit, and a Spinal and Neuro Instrument Kit, letting a practice equip a specific procedure type without assembling instruments piece by piece. However, if you have specific instrument requirements, we are happy to put together a custom kit with the items you require at a price that meets your own personal budget.
Building an Orthopedic Line: Where to Start
A practice building out orthopedic capability from scratch typically needs all three categories working together: a power system suited to its case volume, an implant system matched to the procedures it performs most (TPLO in particular, if cruciate repair is a regular part of the caseload), and instrument kits for the surrounding steps. Practices already performing a specific procedure, like TPLO, may only need to fill a gap in one category, such as adding a TPLO Osteotomy Guide or a dedicated TPLO Battery Powered Saw Kit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What veterinary orthopedic surgical tools and equipment does VetOvation offer?
VetOvation’s orthopedic lineup covers three categories: power equipment (drills, saws, and handpieces from ConMed’s Hall line), implants (TPLO and fracture plating systems from Rita Leibinger Medical), and pre-assembled instrument kits. Both new and certified pre-owned power equipment options are available. We are happy to build out a kit that includes all these items that include the parts you need at the price you can afford.
What is the difference between orthopedic power equipment, implants, and instruments?
Power equipment cuts and prepares bone during surgery. Implant plates and screws stabilize bone during healing. Instrument kits provide the hand tools used throughout the procedure. Most orthopedic procedures require all three to work together.
What power equipment does VetOvation carry?
VetOvation carries Hall-brand battery-powered instruments through ConMed, including the Hall MicroFree Handpieces, Hall MicroFree Mini-Driver, Hall 50 Dual-Trigger Modular Handpiece. Pre-owned options are also available. We also carry our own line of private label equipment with a 2-year warranty like VetOvation’s own TPLO Battery Powered Saw Kit, the VetOvation Drill and Saw Kit as well as the VetOvation Oscillating Saw Kit . See the Orthopedic Power Equipment page for the full lineup.
What TPLO implants does VetOvation carry?
VetOvation carries TPLO plating systems from Rita Leibinger Medical, including the Titanium LeiLOX TPLO Plating System (2.7mm/3.5mm) in Full and Scaled Set configurations like the LeiLox Swing Locking TPLO Plates in titanium, and LeiLox Locking TPLO Plates in stainless steel. TPLO Osteotomy Guides are also available separately. See the Orthopedic Implants page for full details.
Does VetOvation offer pre-owned orthopedic equipment?
Yes. Pre-owned Hall power equipment is available alongside new systems, including the Hall MicroFree Pre-Owned Drill Kit, Hall MicroPower+ Pre-Owned Drill & Saw Kit, Hall MiniDriver Pre-Owned Drill & Saw Kit, and Hall 50 Dual-Trigger Modular Handpiece Pre-Owned.
What procedures does VetOvation's orthopedic equipment support?
The lineup supports TPLO surgery, fracture repair, corrective osteotomies, arthrodesis, implant placement, and spinal and neurological procedures covering both routine and advanced orthopedic caseloads.
Where should a practice start when building an orthopedic line?
Most practices need all three categories: a power system matched to case volume, an implant system suited to their most common procedures, and instrument kits for the surrounding steps. Practices already performing specific procedures may only need to fill one gap, such as adding a TPLO Osteotomy Guide or upgrading to a modular handpiece platform. Regardless of your needs, please contact us and we can help you with individual items, or we can build out a kit that includes the parts you need at the price you can afford.
