Veterinary arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to examine, diagnose, and treat joint conditions using a small camera called an arthroscope. It provides magnified visualization of the joint while reducing tissue trauma, postoperative pain, and recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.

A veterinary arthroscopic resection system is used for procedures such as cartilage debridement, removal of joint fragments, treatment of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), synovectomy, and other minimally invasive orthopedic procedures. The powered shaver system allows surgeons to remove damaged tissue with precision while preserving healthy structures.

An arthroscopic shaver system uses a powered handpiece with specialized blades or burs to remove damaged cartilage, soft tissue, or bone during minimally invasive joint surgery. Continuous visualization through the arthroscope allows the surgeon to work accurately while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues.

Veterinary arthroscopy is commonly performed on the shoulder, elbow, stifle (knee), carpus (wrist), and tarsus (ankle) in dogs. The procedure allows veterinarians to diagnose joint disease, evaluate cartilage, and perform minimally invasive treatment with excellent visualization.

A complete veterinary arthroscopy system typically includes an arthroscope, camera system, LED light source, powered shaver handpiece, irrigation pump, and a selection of blades, burs, and surgical instruments. Additional accessories can be selected based on the procedures performed by the practice.

Arthroscopic surgery requires smaller incisions than traditional orthopedic surgery, resulting in less tissue trauma, reduced pain, decreased infection risk, and faster recovery. The magnified visualization also improves surgical precision and diagnostic accuracy.

The ideal arthroscope depends on the size of your patients, the joints you treat most often, and the procedures you perform. Smaller diameter arthroscopes are commonly used for small dogs and cats, while larger scopes may be preferred for larger canine patients and more advanced orthopedic procedures.
